Split Decision.

The design of the Case, hides each of the three phases of the effect until you are ready to introduce them. Introduce the face down cards first, and then introduce the face up cards, and finally introduce the face down Prediction Card (made up of the two different value cards). Showing one phase at a time, keeps the performance moving and more entertaining as it develops through to the final climax.

Reset the effect as you clear the performance area.

The Case. The Prediction Card goes face down, in the rear pocket. The Blank faced Red or Blue cards are in the top pocket, face down with the force card is on top. The other half cards are in the lower pocket faces up, the force card is the 10th card down from the face up position. Close the case, it’s now set and ready.

The effect only requires a False Cut and a Force Count, I explain these below.

The Force. “Crossways Cut” to force the top card. Have your helper cut the face down cards into two halves, place the bottom portion crossways onto the top portion this will force the original top card.

The Force. “ Think of a number between 10 and 20”. Remove the face up cards and ask for a number between ten and twenty, let’s assume the number is fourteen. When you have counted fourteen, pick them up and say fourteen comprises of the number's, one and four, so one and four makes five, count down from the 14 cards to the fifth card, at that number is the card you wish to force. Place this card face down onto the table quite quickly, to hide its value from view.

The Next Phase. Now go back to the other cards, lift off the cards you placed crossways, take off the top card of the bottom portion, still face down, and place it next to the face down other half card. Bring out the Prediction Card to show that the Backs match your Prediction Card. Carry on to reveal the other side of the Red or Blue back stack and also the Blank fronts stack. Turn over the Prediction Card to show that the mixed fronts also match.  Following my routine will give you all the necessary moves and patter you’ll need to entertain your audience with this fun, lots happening, effect. The more enthusiasm you show, the more entertaining it becomes.

My presentation, with some basic patter.

(1) With the closed case in your hand, say “This was the most expensive pack of cards I ever bought” Open the case, and sayIt was so expensive, I could only afford half of them”  Remove these top face down half cards and have them cut.  Mark this cut, with a crossways replacement of the lower half. (A false cut)

(2) Say Everyone loved it, so I went out and bought the other half Open the lower flap and take out the face up cards, then perform the “Give me a number between “Ten and Twenty count”.  Place the chosen card, face down quickly, and don’t bring any attention to its value at this stage, while placing it down onto the display area.

(3) Join the two half, face down cards, to show that both halves match to make one whole Red or Blue card.

Look very pleased with yourself, say “How’s that for a perfect prediction”

(4) Bring out the prediction card and show that your prediction card has the same back. They won't be very impressed with that either.

(5) Turn over the face up half cards and spread to show they are all one colour backs, say “Yes all the same colour backs” except, you picked the only different colour card in this half deck.

(6) Turn over the other face down card now, it shows a face card, spread the other half deck to show all are blank cards on the face, except  the one they cut to, say “Yes all the others are blank fronts”

(7) Turn over the remaining single half card (from the blank deck) and say “The two cards also match” But they don't match. Show that you are very disappointed. Cheerfully say Two out of three is still very good, isn’t it?" pause, then turn over the prediction card and say "But three out of three is even better”  Show that it matches their two half cards exactly, it looks better if they mirror exactly, secretly mark the Prediction Card so that you know which end is which.

                                                             Resetting

The forced card is in the 10th position down.  The blank face cards will have the forced card on the top. Close the case and replace the prediction card. Resetting is very much part of the performance of this effect and should be completed quickly so that you can get on with the next effect, preferably the O’Connell Invisible Deck or get out an O’Connell Card Case and perform a card to wallet effect, with  An O’Connell wallet of course. Sorry couldn’t resist it.
